Application Process
In order to volunteer with Iredell County Animal Services and Control, you must be at least 14 years of age. Volunteers between the ages of 14-16 years old must have a parent or guardian present each time they perform a volunteer shift or represent ICAS as a volunteer in any capacity.
All new and returning applicants are required to complete the online application submission process for consideration of volunteering with ICAS. Once your application is received by our Volunteer Coordinator, you will receive an email advising of the next step. After your application is processed, you will then be scheduled for a drug test and background check. Once you are cleared to proceed, you will be scheduled for new volunteer orientation and subsequent training. We recommend emailing our Volunteer Coordinator upon submitting your application and you may do so by emailing volunteer@co.iredell.nc.us
The onboarding process can take some time, as we are an Iredell County Government Agency, and follow their onboarding policies and procedures for our volunteer program. The process can take up to 3-6 weeks and we ask for your patience in the process. Please know that the wait is worth it.

Volunteer Benefits
- Be part of the solution: You’ll work alongside like-minded individuals in shared efforts to educate your community about responsible pet ownership and advocacy for homeless animals. You will help to make the jobs of the Animal Welfare workers at ICAS easier by lending them a much needed hand.
- Get a warm fuzzy feeling: You’ll be rewarded for your efforts by the grateful kisses and snuggles from an animal you’ve helped comfort.
- Keep good company: You’ll make new friends and we don’t mean just the 4-legged ones. Working with people who share similar interests can forge lifelong friendships.
- Discover a new you: You may discover skills you never knew you had and you will be surprised to find how much you are capable of achieving.
- A new career? It’s possible: You may want to explore animal related careers.
- Enjoy the wagging tails, purrs and smiles: After all, the best things in life are free!
