Clinical Indications: Level: EMT-P only
Ø Transport of a patient with an existing central line in place
Procedure:
a. Prior to transportation, ensure that the line is secure.
b. Medications and IV fluids may be administered through a central venous line. Such infusions must be suspended while transducer is obtaining a central venous pressure. These may be restarted after the measurement.
c. Do not manipulate the central venous catheter.
d. If the central venous catheter becomes dysfunctional, does not allow for drug administration, or becomes dislodged, immediately contact medical control.
e. Document the time of pressure measurements, the pressures obtained, and any medication administration in the ACR.
Certification Requirements:
Successfully complete an annual skill evaluation including the indications, contraindications, technique, and possible complications of the procedure.
