Assessment Adult

 

Clinical Indications:                                                               Levels: EMT-B, EMT- D,

                                                                                                 EMT-I, EMT-P

 

Ø      Any patient requesting a medical evaluation that is too large to be measured with a Broselow-Luten resuscitation tape.

 

Procedure:

 

a.       Scene size-up including universal precautions, scene safety, environmental hazards assessment, need for additional resources, by-stander safety, and patient/caregiver interaction.

b.      Initial assessment includes a general impression as well as the patient’s airway, breathing, and circulatory status.

c.       Assess mental status (e.g., AVPU) and disability (e.g., GCS).

d.      Control major hemorrhage and assess overall priority of patient.

e.       Perform a focused history and physical based on patient’s chief complaint.

f.        Assess the need for critical interventions.

g.       Complete critical interventions and perform a complete secondary survey to include a baseline of vital signs as directed by protocol.

h.       Maintain an on-going assessment throughout transport, to include patient response, possible complications of interventions, need for additional interventions, and an assessment of evolving patient complaints or conditions.

i.         Document findings and interventions on the ACR.

 

 

 

           

Certification Requirements:

Successfully complete an annual skill evaluation including the indications, contraindications, technique, and possible complications of the procedure.
