Class: Pituitary hormone

Mechanism of Action: Contraction of smooth muscles of GI tract and all parts of vascular bed;  increased absorption of water by renal tubules giving antidiuretic action.

Indications: Prevention and treatment of postoperative abdominal distention;  Diabetes insipidus

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity

Precautions: Vascular disease, may produce water intoxication

Side Effect: Cardiac arrest, decreased cardiac output, abdominal cramps, nausea/vomiting
