IPRATROPIUM (ATROVENT)

 

Class: Anticholinergic

 

Mechanism Of Action: Causes bronchiodilation and dries respiratory tract secretions. Acts by blocking acetylcholine receptors, thus inhibiting parasympathetic stimulation.

 

Indications: Bronchial asthma and reversible bronchospasm associated with chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

 

Contraindications: Hypersensitivity. Not indicated for acute treatment of bronchospasm when rapid response is required.

 

Precautions: Elderly. Cardiovascular Disease. Hypertension.

 

Side Effects: Palpitations. Anxiety. Dizziness. Headache. Rash.

 

Dosage: Usually administered with Beta-agonist

500 mcg of Atrovent in nebulizer
*Can administer with or without Beat-agonist.
